When it comes to using a laptop, there’s just so many brands to choose from. One of the premier choices you can make is choosing a MacBook. These sleek and sexy notebook computers are well designed, functional, and a sheer pleasure to use.

MacBook is a brand of notebook computers that have been created by Apple. It was created as a replacement to their iBook series, and is part of Apples mass transition to top quality notebook technology.

There’s a number of models that are available for you to rent, including the popular MacBook Air. One of the things that makes MacBook so popular is just how adaptable they are. There’s also different OSX systems you can choose from, including Mavericks OSX 10.9, Snow Leopard OSX 10.8 and even the newest OSX Yosemite that released in September 2014.

One of the main reasons people flock to Apple technology is because it works. Their MacBook range is stable, efficient, and possibly one of the most user friendly laptops you could ever own. Although it doesn’t offer you the freedom of user upgrade, when something works so well no matter how much stress it has, you can’t go wrong.

As a matter of fact, there’s a number of other laptops that have identical specifications, or sometimes even better, but there are very few that are able to replicate the smoothness that Apple do. MacBook’s are well optimised and fine tuned, making them a delight to use.

Something that’s especially impressive is how it can turn on in just half a second from sleep mode. This may not sound like that big of a deal but when you compare to other laptops that take anywhere from a single minute to five, it’s well worth the investment of a MacBook.

There are three different models of MacBook that you are able to choose from.

Types of MacBook

MacBook

The very first MacBook in Apples range, although later models surpass the system requirements of this netbook, nothing will quite match the innovation this model created.

It used to be that touchpads were unbearable to use, simply leaving people with a sore finger. The first MacBook revolutionised how touchpads worked, with it being incredibly smooth when it comes to clicking, scrolling with more than a single finger and easily going back and forth through pages with three fingers.

One of the biggest problems with other computers, especially Windows, is that they can take a long period of time to load up. Windows can be terrible for this as they get more programs installed onto the system. With the MacBook, in 20 seconds it can boot up, with very few other models offering this speed.

It’s easy to see that time and effort has been invested into building the MacBook. In the looks department it’s sure to catch a few eyes. Similarly, the build quality is incredible. After heavy use it still won’t creak as you fold the screen in and out.

Even though it only has 1.0 GB of Ram, it’s still able to multi task well. With the amount of programs on the app store, this is a good feature to have. It can start to lag if there’s a number of programs running and you’re watching a film on iTunes, although this isn’t too much of a problem.

MacBook Pro (with or without retina display)

There are two types of MacBook Pro, with or without retinal display. These two types function virtually the same with very few differences, although once you’re used to a retina display it’s hard to deal with a screen that isn’t.

One of the things that people love about the MacBook Pro is how fast the processor is, the two Thunderbolt Ports and how there’s a massive number of apps you can find in the Apple store.

In both the retina and non retina versions there are the same screen dimensions available, 15 inch and 17 inch. The higher screen size does not necessarily mean higher specifications, with both models having Core i5 and Core i7 variations. It all depends on what use you need the MacBook Pro for. It’s a big leap from the first MacBook, which is fairly basic when compared to these models.

With the retina display models it’s staggering just how beautiful it is. You’ll instantly want to load up a vibrant film that has lots of colour so you can be amazed at just how well optimised this is. The retina display is so well made that it beats some of the experts to top of the market.

MacBook Air

One of the best selling models of MacBooks on the market, the MacBook Air is still seen as one of the best Apple products made to this day. The battery life has been significantly improved, the processor has been tweaked, the graphics make up for lack of a retina display and the WIFi comes with AC mode.

Something that attracts a lot of people to choose this MacBook is its portability. As the name Air gives away, it’s incredibly light. It’s just so easy to transport it in a bag or even carry it your hands.

Another reason that the MacBook air has done so well is thank to its USB port. Previous models didn’t have USB ports, which in some cases has been a turn off for other people. The MacBook Air allows you to transport your files easily without the need for an external hard drive which can often be bulky.

Although there’s only a 13 inch model available, you won’t feel like you’re missing out. As the graphics have been improved you won’t even realise that there isn’t a retina display, although for some people it may be off putting.

Software

When it comes to the software you can have pre-installed, there isn’t a shortage of options:

  • Adobe Creative Suite
  • Office for Mac
  • Final Cut
  • Playback Pro
  • Your own software

Any of these can be ghosted so every macbook you hire is setup exactly the same.

There’s also a range of software that’s already preloaded onto every Macbook:

  • Time Machine
  • Quick Look
  • Space
  • Spotlight
  • Dashboard
  • Mail
  • iChat
  • Safari
  • iCal
  • DVD player
  • Photo Booth
  • iLife’09
  • iTunes
  • iPhoto
  • iMovie
  • iWeb
  • GarageBand

Optional upgrades include:

  • External Keyboard
  • External Monitor
  • Kensington Security Lock
  • Wireless Presentation Clicker

You can expect your usual features you get on a notebook:

  • Headphone socket
  • HDMI Port
  • SDXC card slot for extra connectivity

Overview of Features

When you use a Macbook, it’s important you’re able to customise it as much as possible. You are able to change the wallpaper, background and even the screensavers. The Matrox triplehead2go card is useful as well, as it allows you to use multiple monitors at a single time.

When it comes to memory, it can be easily upgraded from its standard amount, all the way up to 16 GB of RAM is available. On the majority of Macbooks is Thunderbolt ports, allowing for much faster data transfer. The majority of Macbooks have USB 3.0 ports, allowing for easy file transfers.

Out of the different models that are available for you, you have the choice of both 15 inch widescreen and 17 inch widescreen. If you want the highest resolution the eye is possible to see then a 15 inch retina display Macbook is your best choice.

So you are able to transport your Macbook with great ease, a laptop bag comes with rental, and that comes with a USB mouse. If you require a magic mouse or even a wireless keyboard, they are available.

There’s also different core choices:

  • Intel Core 2 Duo
  • Core i3
  • Core i5
  • Core i7 CPUs

Macbook’s also have inbuilt webcams, so if you need to have a meeting with someone in a different destinations it’s possible to do it without leaving the office. When it comes to memory, the newer retina Macbook come with a solid state hard drive so you can store any of your essential documents and files and the machine boots up incredibly quickly.

Powerwise, you don’t have to be worried. With 1 GB NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M, as well as Intel HD 4000, you are sure to have an ultra powerful experience.

Connectivity

Every Macbook has inbuilt WiFi, so you are able to connect to wireless hotspots. There’s also firewire 400 and firewire 800 ports on each Macbook, allowing you to connect directly to an internet port if you have one available. A network card comes already installed so you’re able to easily connect to the internet.
