New iPhone app calculates unfair dismissal claim costs

Scottish law firm MacRoberts has released a new iPhone app that aims to help employers calculate employee compensation claims. The new application will be free to download on the app store and will offer employers useful information on UK employment law. Included in the app will be an unfair dismissal compensation calculator and an interactive redundancy calculator.

The HR advisor will also include links to Acas and the Equal Opportunities Commission and other government bodies. Other areas that the app covers include; maternity and paternity leave, equal pay, discrimination and unfair dismissal.

“We have listened very carefully to our HR clients and have developed a practical, useful and relevant app which addresses the issues HR professionals face every day in an increasingly difficult employment law environment,” commented MacRoberts employment law partner Graham Mitchell.

The app also automatically updates along with any changes in employment law. These include changes to statutory rates like minimum wage. To complete the calculations the iPhone app will take details such as length of service, age and salary into account. All of which can be entered manually into the redundancy calculator by the user.

“Others have shied away from compensation estimates because of the considerable amount of variables involved, but we have included – and highlighted – some reasonable presumptions, allowing us to provide an informed assessment which will be of real value to HR professionals,” commented Mr Mitchell.

Once it has finished the calculations the app will offer an estimate of the likely award that an employee would receive at a tribunal following an unfair dismissal claim.
