Microsoft is attempting to make its latest batch of PCs as beautiful as possible so that users feel proud of their laptops as they go about their work.
New designs and styles will be produced as Microsoft focus on trying to attract customers who want more than simply a functional computer to work on.
The Silicon Valley giant hopes that the new range of PCs will remind users that no matter what they use their computer for, it can become a fashion icon.
Part of the reason for Microsoft’s willingness to experiment is that while computer enthusiasts perceive the firm to be producers of world renowned software, the same people do not associate Microsoft’s hardware to be as glamorous as their rivals.
Microsoft’s new range is called The Collection and will feature 30 models produced by nine different manufacturers.
Within The Collection, there will be five categories to choose from, including ‘Professional’, ‘Gaming’ and ‘Mobile Companion’. Three Microsoft ‘Collections’ are to be released each year.
Samsung‘s Series-9 laptop, a Dell PC for gaming, a touchscreen PC and a 3D combined machine are amongst the first releases available to buy.
The firm also released results of a survey which claimed 72% of respondents struggled when choosing a PC because of the options available, whilst 27% spent as much time researching a PC as they did preparing to move house.
Leila Martine, Head of Windows UK said: “We’ve created The Collection to inspire people and make it easier for them to find the right PC for their individual needs and budget.”
