Instagram now has over 5 million users. In fact, the iPhone app saw an astonishing 100,000 new sign ups just this weekend. The photo sharing site now sees an average of 860,000 photo uploads in a day, overall Instagram’s users have posted more than 95 million photos. The site has the potential to easily reach 100 million photos within this coming week.
To celebrate this we’ve taken a look at some of the best apps centred around Instagram for your iPhone, Mac and iPad. Thanks to Instagram’s open API the application is currently accessed by over 2,500 separate applications. Here’s a few of our personal favourites:
Screenstagram is an app that allows you to create a screensaver for your Mac using your Instagram stream. Users can choose to either use photos from people they follow or the current most popular. The screensaver organises the photos into tiles and updates them as new pictures are added. This app is even available for those without an Instagram account.
Inkstagram is one of the best web apps for browsing Instagram photos on your Mac or iPad. The application allows you to view photos in small, medium and large sizes and lets you like and comment on other peoples uploads.
Whilst technically not an app but in-fact a piece of hardware, Instaprint is an exciting accessory for Instagram. It is a small printer designed to print images that are taken at social events such as parties or functions. Instaprint is intended to be a form of photo booth and uses the location tags to connect with the user’s iPhone. Each one of the boxes is set up with a location or hashtag that users can enter into their iPhone to access the printer. It even prints without ink to reproduce the feel of classic polaroids.
