Following months of speculation and online hints we could be one step closer to seeing the new Amazon tablet. The company has sent out press invitations to an event in New York next week. It has been automatically assumed by some that the press conference will be the big reveal of the tablet. That said, Amazon are playing this one close to their chest and have refused to comment on the subject matter of Wednesday’s conference. Here’s what we know about the tablet so far:
Firstly it the Amazon tablet will be running an Android operating system . Something that furthers the inevitable rivalry between the upcoming Amazon tablet and Apple. This will be Amazon’s first foray onto the tablet market, the Kindle being focused on e-books and offering limited uses.
However, so far opinions are split about the release of the tablet due to concerns over the way that Amazon will price the item. Speaking about this BCG partners analyst Colin Gillis commented: “The real issue here is that, you know, it is likely going to be good for consumers; is this going to be good for shareholders? Knowing Amazon, it is likely to be a very aggressive price.”
Amazon have also just released Android software store available on its site which could be used as an app store for the Amazon tablet. What’s more the wealth of content available on the site means that users will have instant access to scores of music, literature and films.
