Steve Jobs biopic to be written by Aaron Sorkin

A new movie based on the biography of Apple founder Steve Jobs is set to be created by Oscar-winning screenwriter Aaron Sorkin.

Known for penning the successful political television series The West Wing and lauded blockbuster The Social Network, a film that was based on the infancy of Facebook, the American writer will be bringing Job’s life to the big screen.

The movie will be based on the official biography of the former Apple CEO written by Walter Isaacson, which took two years to research and includes interviews with Job’s friends, competitors and relatives. Continue reading

ITR Set for Summer

After the hurrendous weather over the past few weeks you could be forgiven for not realising that Summer is just around the corner. And with that comes a whole new spectrum of requirements and challenges for ITR to overcome.

Having successfully supported many music festivals, regattas and sporting events from athletics to half marathons over the past few years, the requests are starting to come in from similar customers. As before, the main requirement is for laptops, PA systems and plasma screens but newer products such as our 32″ and 40″ LED displays and of course the New iPad are also in high demand.

We can also cater for more bespoke requests such as badge printers, video cameras, staging, lighting and voting systems. Being located in the West Midlands we have a wealth of events taking place over the holidays within easy reach and therefore are likely to be on hand to ensure these events run smoothly.

iPad pilot scheme explored further in Scottish schools

iPads could be incorporated into the Scottish school curriculum following Education Scotland’s decision to investigate how tablet devices can enhance learning.

There are a number of existing schemes already in operation across ten local authorities and 20 schools in the area where students are using iPads in the classroom. Sciennes Primary in Edinburgh and Morgan Academy in Dundee are two schools that have trialled the use of the streamlined computer successfully.

The exploration will consider whether these pilot projects are working well and highlight the best ways to widen the use of iPads across more learning facilities in Scotland. Continue reading

Although the majority of what we do here at ITR caters for events, exhibitions, conferences and training, we do receive enquiries for setting up temporary offices. This is the case more recently due to the Olympics coming up in July. We’ve had a number of enquiries come through from people looking to set up temporary internet cafes for journalists and other groups. Good job we’re set up to cater for such requirements! Bespoke software requirements – no problem!

Having our own in-house design and programming team who can advise on bespoke software requirements really helps to offer our customers the complete package, not just fulfilling their hardware needs. In the current market savvy shoppers are looking for organisations that can cater for all their requests, keeping costs to a minimum and luckily for them ITR is one such company.

I am currently involved in two projects where customers have asked for above and beyond your standard kit and we have stepped in to quote on apps for the iPad as well unique software for our 42″ digital signage pillars.  Having a team who specialises in this side of things is a great relief for me (being no expert on software!) and also reassures our customers that there are specialists on hand to support every aspect of their rental needs.

ITR Join the Mile high Club

We were recently contacted by a well known airline to assist in their pilot scheme (excuse the pun) to provide two iPads in the flight deck of several of their Aircraft. The iPads were loaded with the airlines bespoke software containing important information for the Captains and first Officers to use instead of the paper version.

Although the overall plan is to purchase if the project proved successful it made sense to rent the equipment during the initial testing. The feedback has been very positive and we are hoping for a lot more business to come from this.

Apple champions its renewable energy commitments

Apple has hit back at recent claims made by environmental organisation Greenpeace that its data centre facilities are bad for the earth.

Earlier this year the activist network said that Apple relies on coal power far more than other technology focussed companies like Facebook and Google and that only 10% of the energy demands at its North Carolina facility will be met by renewable energy sources.

At the time Greenpeace spokesman Dave Pomerantz said: “Apple right now is falling behind companies like Google and Facebook, who are taking a leadership role on this issue. It’s a shame that a company that built its reputation on thinking differently is now behind the curve.” Continue reading

Apple will stop advertising iPads with ’4G’ label

Apple has been forced to withdraw its claims that the iPad has ’4G’ capabilities in the UK by the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) because there are no available 4G networks in Britain.

Even when these networks are introduced to the UK infrastructure the tablet will not be compatible with the system because of the new iPad’s 4G chip, which operates on different frequencies to US and Canadian networks.

The ASA received over 40 complaints about the issue and earlier this year Apple removed 4G references from its webpages and edited any affected videos. Continue reading

Media content easier to access on tablet computers finds study

Just over 60% of tablet computer users find it easier to access media content on their slimline device that on a laptop, PC or mobile, a new study has revealed.

A further 69% of tablet owners admit to shopping on their device over the last month with 10% of this figure stating that they are happy to make ‘big ticket purchases’ on their iPad or other rival product.

Over 20% of the 8,400 participants in the survey, carried out by mobile advertising network InMobi and Mobext, said they shop less in real-life stores because they can purchase what they need on their tablet. Continue reading
